Major events
Vienne International Jazz Festival
Created in 1981, nowadays each edition of the Festival hosts an average of 180,000 festival-goers. It is the Number One jazz festival in France and is internationally famous. The last one took place on several stages: the Scène de Cybèle, the Club de Minuit at the Vienne theatre, and under a tent near the tourist office for the "Jazz mix" stage. Note that the concerts on these three stages are free (Festival Off).
Finally, from June 28th to July 13th 2007, the Ancient Theatre, that mythical venue, hosted festival-goers from all over the world who had come to enjoy and dance to flamenco and Brazilian rhythms, dream away with the blues, applaud great jazz artists such as Georges Benson, Dee Dee Bridgewater and Pat Metheny, or feed their souls with gospel sounds... Cinephiles are also catered for, with a film being shown at the Ancient Theatre.
