Chasse-sur-Rhône
Chasse-sur-Rhône, a municipality in the Isère, is located in the 'Sillon Rhodanien' (Rhône Valley), 22 km south of Lyon and 8 km north of Vienne. It is a real communications hub within a major traffic corridor, including Givors, the A47 motorway, and the famous sunshine motorway, the A7.
- 1241 - CHASSE appeared for the first time in a document from the Chamber of Accounts, which recorded the granting by Lord de Fallavier to Guy de la Tour of various fiefs, including the village of Chasse. There is reason to think that this area was covered in oak forests and undergrowth. The first lord later built his castle there: Chasse Castle. The name was also applied to the surrounding hamlet. Saint Martin de Chasse and Saint Martin de Seyssuel then formed the municipality of SEYSSUEL.
- 1791 - Division of the district into sections
- 1851 - Separation of the two sections into two distinct municipalities. Because of the difficulties involved in going from one section to the other (administrative procedures, etc.), Seyssuel wanted to be separate from Chasse.
- 1932 - The municipality was re-named: Chasse became CHASSE SUR RHONE.
- 12 August 1944 - Allied bombardment of the municipality. Casualties: 99 dead, 118 wounded. A victims' committee is very quickly set up for the distribution of points (textile points to purchase clothing). Overall, between 260 and 300 people were directly or indirectly affected.
- 1966 - Closure of 'Hauts-Fourneaux de CHASSE' (Chasse blast furnaces). Most of the municipality's population depended on this large company to earn a living...
- In 1999, at the time of the last census of the French population, CHASSE SUR RHONE had a population of 4795 (2362 men and 2433 women), for a population density of 606 inhabitants per km2. In nine years, since 1990, the municipality had gained 229 residents. In 24 years, since 1975, the municipality had gained 851 residents.
The surface area of the municipality is 791 hectares, 253 hectares of common agricultural area and 259 hectares used by farmers.
