Municipality with a population of 1435 in 1999, and approximately 1650 in 2005; its inhabitants are known as 'Moidillards'.

Located in the Rhône-Alpes region, Moidieu Détourbe is one of the 536 communes of the Isère, on the CD 502 road between Vienne and Saint Jean de Bournay. The municipality of Moidieu Détourbe lies at the point where three cantons, Vienne-Nord, Vienne-Sud and St-Jean-de-Bournay meet, at the place known as Beaufroide. It belongs to the Pays Viennois Agglomeration Community, which unites 17 municipalities from both cantons of Vienne and the municipality of Saint Romain en Gal in the Rhône, making a community of over 70,000 inhabitants.

Since 2003, Moidieu-Détourbe has belonged to the Mère Teresa en Viennois parish, which forms a community consisting of 16 old parishes, representing over 17,000 residents.
