Wines and farm products
The Pays Viennois is distinctive for the quality of its craftsmen and local producers
Created by the Allobroges, and then developed and structured in terraces by the Romans, the Côte Rôtie winery is amongst the oldest in France. Planted on steep, sun-soaked hills, the Côte Rôtie vines produce a red vin de garde which is warm, full-bodied, robust wine. Bitter and dark when young, these wines become more accessible and develop a rich, complex bouquet with age. Production is dominated by two grape varieties: Viognier and Syrah. More details
Grown in the south of the district, it is considered to be an exceptional and hard-to-find wine. Located on steep hills, an extension of the Côte-Rôtie vineyards, the terrain covers only 105 hectares. Condrieu consists solely of the Viognier grape variety; this produces white wines with a full body, high alcohol content, powerful fragrance, and a rounded mouth. They have aromas of apricot, acacia honey, pears, or almonds. More details
Many farms of the Pays Viennois are open to the public for tours and of course tasting and purchase of their products: snails, butter, cheeses, foie gras, poultry, asparagus, strawberries, apples, fruit juice, ostrich meat, pâtés, and sausages. More details
